Our mission is to partner with the Sub-Saharan African Grandmothers in their endeavours to take care of their orphaned grandchildren, create cooperatives to make a just living, and give physical, emotional, and spiritual support wherever possible.
Each year we have a tea where our members make tea sandwiches and baked goods. We sell crafts at the tea. Three large baskets of oils, vinegars, pastas, soaps, and more are given as door prizes. Our members contribute the goodies in the baskets.
For the past two years, we have had a concert. Last year the concert was held I Aurora Trinity Anglican Church. Local talent provided a rich entertaining evening.
This year we have a professional small band, singer, and dancer and will be at the Newmarket Theatre. Bruce Cassidy and Friends have entertained groups in Toronto. Our members work tirelessly to create crafts to sell. All materials are generously donated and no remuneration is asked.
We have ordered jewelry from cooperatives in several countries in Africa which the grandmothers have formed. The money from these sales: Kazuri, Children of Hope is sent back to the cooperatives.
We sell pins purchased from Designs by Lucinda. Lucinda sells to nonprofit organizations, thus serving a number of charitable organizations.
We also raise awareness about the HIV/AIDS epidemic that hits the sub-Sahara hardest. To this end, we speak to a variety of organizations, church groups, and students in schools.
