GranAurora is pleased to present one of Canada’s most accomplished astronauts:  Dr. Dave Williams, Order of Canada recipient, former Director of Space & Life Sciences at NASA, astronaut, aquanaut, cancer survivor, jet pilot, ER doctor, scientist, hospital CEO, and children’s book author.  He was part of the same training class as both Chris Hadfield and Governor General, Julie Payette.
Dave has flown to space twice; once on the shuttle Columbia and once on Endeavor, logging over thirteen million kilometres in space and over seventeen hours of spacewalks (he set a record for total number of spacewalks).  He became the first non-American to hold a senior management position within NASA.  He also became the first Canadian to have lived and worked in space and in the ocean, as he completed an underwater research mission dedicated to assessing new ways to deliver medical care to a remote location, as would be done on a long space flight, and he also performed surgery in zero gravity.
His upcoming book – “Defying Limits:  Lessons from the Edge of the Universe”  will be going on sale in book stores on October 30th.  Lucky for us and you, we will have the opportunity to not only hear him speak, but also purchase a signed copy of his book at our Author Event on Monday October 29, 2018.  Dave’s philosophy truly is to not waste a moment, and his life experiences really reflect that.  He is one of the most brilliant, humble and inspiring individuals.
This event will be held at the Aurora Cultural Centre, 22 Church Street, Aurora, on Monday October 29, 2018.  Doors open at 6:45 p.m. for refreshments and shopping at our Marketplace.  The Author Event begins at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets:  $20.00.  All proceeds go to the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign.
